Turning Point Talking Therapies

Turning Point Talking Therapies offers free, confidential support for people aged 16 and over who are registered with a Wakefield District GP. If you’re feeling low, anxious, stressed or struggling with your mental wellbeing, the team can help through talking therapies, courses and online support.

Support is available face-to-face, by telephone and online.

Opening times

  • Monday - Thursday : 8:00 am - 8:00 pm
  • Friday : 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
  • Saturday : 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Who is the service for?

• Anyone aged 16 or over.
• You must be registered with a Wakefield District GP.
• Suitable for people who are ready to take part in talking therapy.

Key support offer

• One-to-one talking therapy.
• Therapy groups and wellbeing courses.
• Online self-help resources.
• Support with anxiety, depression, stress and low mood.
• Help with sleep problems, phobias, OCD, PTSD, panic and social anxiety.
• Support for long-term health conditions, chronic pain and complex grief.
• Employment support, peer mentoring and volunteering opportunities.

What we don't offer

• Crisis or emergency mental health support.
• Support for children under 16.
• Treatment for severe or enduring mental illness, such as psychosis or bipolar disorder.
• Support where alcohol or drug use is the main concern.
• Eating disorder services or specialist personality disorder services.

Accessibility information

• Translation services are available for one-to-one therapy.
• Priority is given to veterans.
• Priority support is also available for parents during the perinatal period where mental health difficulties relate to pregnancy, birth or early parenthood.

Waiting times & timescales

After your referral is received, you’ll usually be offered an assessment within 7–21 days. Following your assessment, you’ll work with the team to agree the most appropriate treatment plan.
