Single Point of Access

The Single Point of Access (SPA) is the main way to access specialist NHS mental health services in Wakefield for adults aged 18 to 65. The team will listen to your concerns, assess your needs and help you find the right support. If you need urgent help, they can arrange a quick assessment.

Who is the service for?

Adults aged 18 to 65 who need support with their mental health.

Key support offer

• Listen to your mental health concerns.
• Assess your needs.

• Help you access the right mental health service.
• Arrange urgent support if you’re in a mental health crisis.
• Signpost you to local services if another service is more suitable.

What we don't offer

• Ongoing treatment or regular appointments.
• General support services.
• Routine follow-up after your assessment.

If you have any communication or accessibility needs, please let the team know when you contact them so they can support you.

Waiting times & timescales

• Routine referrals: You’ll usually be contacted or offered an assessment within 14 days.
• Urgent referrals: You’ll be assessed as quickly as possible.
• Mental health crisis: You’ll be triaged the same day and, if needed, referred to the Intensive Home Based Treatment Team for an assessment within 4 hours.

The team works closely with GPs, Talking Therapies, Primary Care Mental Health Teams, Community Mental Health Teams, the Intensive Home Based Treatment Team, the Perinatal Team and a wide range of local health and community services.
