Leeds Mind

Leeds Mind Suicide Bereavement Services offers compassionate support for people bereaved or affected by suicide, delivered by staff who understand because they have been there. The service offers a safe space to talk, practical advice, and opportunities to connect with others who have been impacted by suicide loss. Support is available for individuals, families, community groups, workplaces, and education institutes (support available may vary across areas).

Opening times

  • Monday - Thursday : 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
  • Friday : 9:00 am - 4:30 pm

Support can be accessed flexibly, and the team will work around your schedule wherever possible when organising support.

Who is the service for?

  • People of all ages across Leeds, Bradford, Craven and Kirklees
  • People aged 11+ across Calderdale and Wakefield
  • You can benefit from Leeds Mind Suicide Bereavement Services support if you:

  • Have lost anyone to suicide (e.g. a family member, friend, colleague or acquaintance – whatever your association with the individual, if you feel that a suicide has impacted you, you can seek support)
  • Think someone ended their own life (even if the death was not determined as suicide, or if an inquest was not held)
  • Have been affected by suicide but do not identify as bereaved (e.g. if you witnessed a death or were exposed to a death through work, for example as part of an emergency response team)
  • Were affected by a suicide at any time (even if the loss was months, years or decades ago)
  • Key support offer

  • Support for schools, colleges and universities
    Support for workplaces
  • Training for staff to support students/employees impacted by suicide
  • Group support for community groups, friendship groups etc
  • Social events and activities

    What we don't offer

    This is not a counselling service – Leeds Mind Suicide Bereavement Services offer ‘peer support’. This means support from individuals who have lived experience of loss from suicide.     Support can be face-to-face, over the phone, on Zoom or via WhatsApp. Practitioners are based around West Yorkshire, providing community-based support.

    Key partners

    The Leeds Mind Suicide Bereavement Services are made up of:

  • Leeds Suicide Bereavement Service – Run by Leeds Mind with funding from Leeds City Council.
  • West Yorkshire Suicide Bereavement Service – NHS England has provided funding for a suicide bereavement service across West Yorkshire. The project is run by Leeds Mind and informed by the Leeds Suicide Bereavement Service.
